(It now freezes in soft boot.) None of them show any errors, hardware of software. The problem got worse after I did the clean install. I have run diskwarrior, apple hw tests, drive genius, and done a clean install. At one time it would boot into safe boot mode. The initial problem is freezing at the blue screen before the login prompt comes. I have noticed other errors, at times, including a "Graphics chip error".

Based on the messages I see in the system log I finally think that I have a driver mismatch given that there is now a different card in there.

I replaced the graphics card that came with my G$ MDD 1.2G desktop with the same model card, nVidia geForce4 Ti 4600. I have done quite a bit of reading but I am not sure if this falls into the same category as updates happen when the OS changes.
